Teaching Philosophy:

“Our purpose does not lie in a movement to create professional musicians, but to create people of beautiful minds and fine ability through an unparalleled, uniquely musical approach. We engage in human education through music so that children will grow beautifully with high sensitivity.”

Dr Shinichi Suzuki

General Philosophy: Respect children as a complete person; understand and adapt children's changing needs; commitment to the whole child; Nurture a trusted reciprocal relationship

Musicianship: One of our most important goals should be to encourage positive personal, social and education values to train students who are musically functionally literate. To teach the students correct musical terminology from the very beginning

Technique: Stress to play piano the nature's way.  A sound technique should be a natural one and become player's second nature. Develop posture and basic technique before the introduction of note reading. Technical problems are  learned in the context of the music rather than through dry technical exercises.

Listening: Promote listening and aural exposure to repertoire and other good music, Listening to music every day is important, especially  the pieces that the students are learning.

“Learn one thing, then practice and polish it every day for perhaps three months. Listen continuously to the best performers in the world on recordings. Soon you will improve, playing more and more excellently, until a new higher level is born. By this time it is no longer technique only but the possession of spirit and heart.”

Dr Shinichi Suzuki

Read Music and other musical skills and concepts are sequentially developed, including: music reading and sight-singing, music theory and improvisation. Children should become comfortable with the piano before learning to read music. Reading music could be taught separate from the instrument. Music theories are learned in the context of the music rather than through dry text book.

Performance: The stronger the musical environment, the easier and more successful the natural learning. We encourage students to participate  in concerts and workshops, National Piano Guild Auditions and  competitions, provide opportunities for students to play in public, to absorb the musical mastery of professional artists by listening to CDs, watching DVDs and attending live concerts.

Parents Involvement: Parents play an active role in the learning process. Parental involvement is central to the child's success. Parents work with the teacher to create an enjoyable learning environment.  is strongly encouraged.

Praise and Encouragement:  Children's effort to learn piano should be sincerely praised and encouraged. Each child learns at his/her own rate, building on small steps so that each one can be mastered. Children are also encouraged to support each other’s efforts, fostering an attitude of generosity and cooperation.

About Dr. Shinichi Suzukii

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (1898 - 1998) Renowned Japanese violinist and teacher studied how children learn for over fifty years. Encouraged by their ability to assimilate the “mother tongue”, he saw a great opportunity to enrich children’s lives through music. His primary goal was not only to teach young people to play musical instruments. Rather, he recognized the unique contribution music can make in the total learning process. His goals for all children included development of the whole child, unfolding the natural potential to learn and becoming a good and happy person.

During the early childhood years, birth through age 5, every moment is an opportunity for children to learn more about the world around them, to practice social skills, and to gain critical thinking skills and knowledge. Early childhood experiences lay the foundation for all later learning and determine whether or not children succeed in school and later life. If we care about our children, then we must ensure that all young children enjoy an early childhood that prepares them to take full advantage of their educational opportunities and to become effective citizens, capable workers, and loving parents of the next generation.

In the Suzuki Method, children thrive in an environment of total support. Suzuki students develop confidence and self-esteem, determination to try difficult things, self-discipline, and concentration. As well, they acquire a lasting enjoyment of music, and the sensitivity and skills necessary for making music.

"Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited." "Where love is deep, much can be accomplished." -Shinichi Suzuki-
